ORGANIC PRODUCE AT THE OYSTER BAY FARMERS MARKET

Oysterbay Farmers Market, Dar es Salaam

Some of you may be very familiar with the Oysterbay farmers market in Dar es Salaam. For those of you who aren’t, the market, stocking quality vegetables, fruits, dairy products and processed goods, is open every last Saturday of the Month.

Located at the Oysterbay shopping centre - on Toure Drive, Masaki - the market also has stalls selling fresh juice and hot food! Entertainment is is also not to overlooked... The market has great bands performing live music every month.

Whilst the marketplace does not exclusively stock organic produce, a keen eye will be rewarded with the discovery of the kilimohai mark (the East African sign of organic produce) on fruit, veg and some processed goods on at least two of the market’s many stalls. One of these stalls is run by Jessica. Jessica sells organic fruits and vegetables produced by farmers in Morogoro - supported by Sustainable Agriculture Tanzania (SAT). Jessica also sources processed organic goods like honey, produced by the enterprising Mr Frank Msigwa from Njombe.

So, for those of you desperate to know where fresh organic produce can be found in Dar, here’s your first port of call:

This February 25th, TOAM plans to up the profile of organic produce on sale at the Oysterbay Farmers Market. There will be more organic produce available than usual and more badging to help shoppers identify it!

The Oysterbay farmers market is funded by the European Union (EU) in collaboration with the World Food Programme and CEFA.
