Tanzania to be 100% Organic -TOAM Board

The Board of Directors of Tanzania Organic Agriculture Movement (TOAM ), aims at making Tanzania mainland and Zanzibar 100% Organic by implementing different organic projects and collaboration
with Government, this was said by Dr. Mwatima Juma (Board Chairperson) during Board meeting held in Dodoma on 20th, October 2020.

“For the purpose of serving our children and our future generation, we must use ecological organic agriculture to protect our country” Dr. Mwatima said. The plan is to apply friendly agriculture technologies which will protect environment and increase food security to our country.

Producing food and ensuring nutrition security, protecting the environment and restoring biodiversity, building sustainable and fair food systems: That’s the promise of the Board. The world now, either at individual farms or at the community level or even at regional level, where agroecological practices have been implemented and are showing their potential from, different points of view, including the economic point of view,” she said. The emphasis will be on Zanzibar and Mount Uluguru Mountains in Morogoro due to its natural environment and agriculture practices which takes place in the respective areas.

This goal will be reached simply because, people work better when they have clear goals towards a certain thing. 200,000 people live in Uluguru Mountains which means that, it will be much easier to reach the target because of human resource.

Through cooperation, co-creation and communication the target will be reached early as those three powerful components will facilitate the process.

Although it is a long term plan, this process will make farmers, downstream, population, tourism, and the Organic Movement winners.
